In South Africa, two popular medications approved for treating erectile dysfunction are Sildenafil (Viagra) and Tadalafil (Cialis).
Sildenafil (Viagra): Known more commonly by its brand name, Viagra, this drug was the pioneering PDE5 inhibitor when introduced in 1998. It's frequently recommended by medical professionals as a first-line treatment for erectile dysfunction due to its proven effectiveness. Viagra is available only as an oral tablet, though several generic versions offer a more cost-effective alternative. It should be taken as needed, about an hour before sexual activity, with its effects kicking in after about thirty minutes. Only one dose per day is recommended.
Tadalafil (Cialis): This is another effective oral treatment for erectile dysfunction. Tadalafil, often sold under the brand name Cialis, enhances blood flow throughout the body. It can be taken in two ways: a higher dose shortly (about 30 minutes) before sexual activity, not exceeding once per day, or a lower, daily dose that prepares you for sexual activity anytime without the need for planning. Its effects can last up to 36 hours, providing flexibility and spontaneity.
